CRUISE ITINERARY
Bora Bora Cruises – Private
Yacht Experience
7 days/6 nights departing Bora
Bora every Monday morning, returning to Bora Bora Sunday afternoons.
Monday – Lagoon Hues, Bora
Bora.
This morning we welcome guests at Bora Bora airport on the ‘Motu Mute’
– small islet on the coral reef fringe that frames Bora Bora’s
principle island. Today is the day to settle in, relax and discover
your private yacht which will be home for the next week. Visit the
small village of Vaitape, head for the beach or schedule an onboard
anti-stress massage. Finish the day with a leisurely sunset cruise
eased along with local music from the onboard ‘Kuru’ (crew).
Tuesday – Vanilla Scents,
Taha’a.
An
early morning arrival at this stunning smaller island that shares an
enormous lagoon with sister island Raiatea. Help prepare and enjoy a
traditional island feast, take lessons in life in the tropics and make
the most of the sun, snorkeling, kayaks, and swimming in pristine
lagoons. We’ll complete the day with a cruise around this island’s
lagoons past postcard perfect motus, and after dinner we’ll slip
across the lagoon to Raiatea.
Wednesday – River and Motu, Raiatea.
Start the day with a visit to the marae (temple) that is central to
the ancient Polynesian civilization that was starting place for the
great migration that peopled lands as far away as Hawai’i, Easter
Island and New Zealand. A late morning kayak up the idyllic Faaroa
River, French Polynesia’s only navigable river, a botanical garden
visit, and an afternoon of beach and lagoon life at Iriru motu.
Following a barbeque under the stars, we’ll invite you to the ‘motu
movies’, a unique open air cinema experience that not even Hollywood
could have imagined. Many guests like to finish the evening with a
spot of late-night fishing, where the aft underwater projectors make
the landing of the next day’s breakfast a rather spectacular affair.
Thursday – Tropical Beauty,
Huahine.
After an early morning crossing from Raiatea, the scene is set for an
exclusive event – our lagoon breakfast. Fine linen, tepid crystalline
waters, and a full array of breakfast temptations, complemented with a
crisp cool flute of champagne. The rest of the morning is yours to
laze at a stunning beach, or to explore the surrounding tropical
landscape. The afternoon sees us visit the tiny port village of Fare,
and we follow with an evening presentation of traditional music
performed by a very special choir.
Friday - Island Flavors,
Raiatea.
An early morning return crossing from Huahine sees us at quay in
‘downtown’ Uturoa – the Leeward Islands’ largest township and
administrative center. Mid-morning we visit a working Tahitian black
pearl farm where these tropical treasures are farmed and harvested
in preparation for setting in sublime jewelry. An early afternoon
cruise and time for a swim from the Yacht’s aft ‘beach’, is followed
by a trek up Mount Tapioi which offers up a myriad of island views at
sunset whilst we treat you for your efforts with a cool Maitai
cocktail. It’s Friday night, an after dinner Tahitian dance group
entertains, and for those wanting a little late night fun, we’d be
happy to accompany you to small local nightclub for a little
entertainment and dancing.
Saturday – Pacific Pearl, Bora
Bora.
The weekend begins as we return early to the multiple turquoise hues
of Bora Bora’s lagoon. Today is the day to experience one or more of
Bora Bora’s wonderful excursions that we offer as options, or to just
return to laze at the beach. A black pearl jewelry presentation
precedes our Saturday night on board, a time to celebrate the week’s
discovery and enjoy another dinner with new friends.
Sunday – Island Sunday, Bora
Bora.
This morning we offer an opportunity to visit a local church, with
roof-lifting hymns and a local attendance resplendent in its island
Sunday best. For those wanting a special piece of Tahitian black pearl
jewelry, the world’s leading producers, Robert Wan Pearls welcome our
guests for an exclusive viewing. There’s also a occasion for another
swim in Bora Bora’s clear lagoon waters before it is time to bid your
Cruise Yacht farewell and return to Bora Bora airport.
Cruise Yacht Dining At Your
Service.
Every morning we offer early coffee, pastry and fruits for early
risers, followed by a full a la carte breakfast service. Those
sleeping late are well catered for as our continental breakfast is
available almost until lunchtime.
Our leisurely lunch a la carte offering is served from noon, and is
followed mid-afternoon tea and refreshments.
Each evening our talented chefs prepare a sumptuous selection of a la
carte gourmet treats heightened with local flavors.
A well-stocked and ably staffed bar offers deck and lounge seating, is
open most of the day and night, and supplemented by our sun deck bar.
Optional Excursions.
Bora Bora Cruises unique experiences as included above are
supplemented by an especially selected and recommended range of
optional excursions. These include the ubiquitous shark feeding and
ray encounter; island tours, four-wheel drive safaris; outrigger canoe
tours; bicycle rides; champagne picnics; on board massages and beauty
treatments; wave-runner excursions; game-fishing; and, of course,
scuba diving.

“Lagoon
Breakfast” Served with Glass of Champagne
A
“lagoon breakfast” is one of BBC’s more innovative activities. A
full selection is served at well-dressed tables
in the lagoon, nicely enhanced with a glass of chilled champagne.
Another innovation is an evening of “Motu Movies”. This is a barbeque
dinner followed by classic movies projected on a
screen suspended between two coconut palms. Guests
enjoy having their feet in the sand, servings of popcorn and ice cream as
they watch a movie under the stars.
For
the adventurous there are tender vessels, ample snorkelling equipment and
a number of kayaks. A kayak expedition into the
only navigable river in French Polynesia is offered
on the island of Raiatea. Other experiences offered by BBC’s lagoon
cruising include an early morning hike up a
small mountain for croissants, coffee and a spectacular view and a
coral gardens snorkelling trip to meet the local fish.
No
Restaurant Sittings
The
onboard cuisine is designed to offer the best of local and international
produce presented in an attractive and
innovative manner in keeping with the boutique lagoon cruise
theme. Aside from special meals served “ashore”, there are no
restaurant sittings and no buffets.
Breakfast
is available for those who rise early as well as those who sleep late.
Lunch is a light affair of salads, sandwiches
and special daily dishes. Afternoon tea is served with canapés
and other finger foods. The cocktail hour is accompanied by classical
savoury snacks.
Dinner
is like eating in a specialized restaurant in any of the world’s
capitals—six pleasurable courses served with
fine wines from all over the world.
BBC’s
current promotion involves seven key new elements. They include promoting
the cruises as a “new niche” product because “nowhere in the
world has boutique lagoon cruising”; exclusive
quality in terms of food, service and guest experience recognition; a sexy
novelty because “everyone dreams of a private motor yacht”; and
calm water cruising, with 95% of each voyage
within protected lagoons.

high level of guest feedback, in our first six months of operations,
we have received completed guest commentaries from more than 65% our
guests, and nearly 99% of these stated that they would recommend the
Bora Bora Cruises experience to their friends and acquaintances.
We have
taken the opportunity to include a few comments that we have
recently received by e-mail – these are all genuine communications :
“Now I am
spoiled, it was the best vacation I ever experienced. Bora Bora
Cruises was absolutely unforgettable.
The food, staff and accommodations was superb. We did not want
to leave the ship. Everyone should have this experience at least
once in their lifetime.” |
|
“We would like
to say how thrilled we were with the wonderful cruise on
September 8 2003. From the pick up at the Bora Bora airport
everything went so smoothly. French Polynesia is such a special
part of the world you are so lucky to be living and working
there. The cruise ship Tu Moana was magnificent and the service
from everyone could not be faulted. Our highlights were many
here are just a few. Food superb, dining room team for
marvelous service, decor of ship fabulous, cabin great, the
space and room on all decks more than enough. We enjoyed our
excursions very much and the beautiful breakfast was a dream on
the lagoon. Everyone did their jobs well and were so helpful.
When we left the Bora Bora wharf to leave for home we could see
the next passengers arriving aboard we felt so sad to be leaving
Tu Moana as we felt it was OUR ship.” |
“My parents
returned from Tahiti almost a month ago and they are still
smiling. I would like to thank you and the crew of the Tu Moana
for making my parent's 50th wedding anniversary cruise so
special. It was truly the trip of a lifetime for them, a dream
come true. They loved the Tu Moana, they felt it was the perfect
way to see the islands. Their comment was that they were
"treated like royalty." "Thank you and Bora Bora Cruises for the
wonderful holiday aboard the Tu Moana in September.
You exceeded my expectations! I have never had such a luxurious
holiday.Your crew on board were fantastic and they made me feel
very special.” |

Bora Bora Cruises Voted
“Best Honeymoon In America” – CBS Viewers. |
26 June 2004
Viewers of US national TV channel CBS “Early Show” selected,
by a large majority, a honeymoon in Tahiti ahead of options to
Hawaii, Costa Rica and Santa Lucia.
The grand prize was an ultimate honeymoon vacation tailored by
Legends, A World of Luxury Travel in Costa Mesa, Ca. Included
in the honeymoon is a 7-day/6-night luxury yacht honeymoon
experience with Bora Bora Cruises, return air aboard Air
Tahiti Nui, and accommodation at the Tahiti Beachcomber
Intercontinental resort.
Winners Marc & Melissa were married this week in a fabulous
ceremony and will now be looking forward to a life of luxury
aboard the 226’ cruise yacht “Ti’a Moana” voyaging the calm
lagoons of Bora Bora, and a number of Tahiti’s other magical
islands in the South Pacific.
The Bora Bora Cruises experience is outside of the usual
tourist clichés, where the senses are indulged with color,
emotion and pleasure: the opportunity to create memories that
will last forever through a combination of originality, style
and destination. The decadence of a fine setting for breakfast
- feet in the warm lagoon waters, the magic of a cinema in a
locale under the stars, amidst the palms and upon the sand of
a deserted islet, the discovery of natural beauty whilst
paddling a kayak up a tropical river, or the hedonistic
pleasure of time spent in a Jacuzzi watching as the blues of
lagoon and sky slowly merge together…

THE ZEN OF TI'A
MOANA - YACHTING IN BORA BORA |
THE ZEN OF TI'A MOANA - YACHTING IN BORA BORA
By Diana Korte
Tribune Media Services
Imagine that you have a very rich friend who invites
you to spend a week on her yacht. "Do whatever you
want, dahling. The crew speaks three languages and my
chef is French. Jet Ski, snorkel or get a massage on
the beach. Why not? Or stay inside your cabin with
that man of yours."
Ti'a Moana is a honeymooner's dream. Most of the 38
passengers on our trip were newlyweds from Spain,
France and the United States. This ship has all
outside cabins, large windows and exquisite
furnishings, as does her sister yacht, the Tu Moana.
These ships offer a new way to experience the South
Pacific - in floating luxury - giving passengers the
impression of privacy though there are dozens onboard.
We were pampered in a galaxy far, far away. A well
traveled and trained international staff read our
minds and catered to every want and need. The food was
so good that my husband, Gene, and I would often pause
and enjoy the aroma before taking the first bite. On
the menu was freshly made chicken consomme with tiny,
chopped raw veggies and a mushroom bisque so fresh and
piquant that the only other thing I had for lunch that
day was another bowl of mushroom bisque. And that's
just the soup. The food on the Ti'a Moana, a stylish
Tahitian-owned yacht, is the best we've ever had on a
ship, and it offered the best French food we've had in
years.
And, yes, you can Jet Ski, swim and snorkel in
turquoise waters, get a massage on the beach, or just
stay inside your cabin. But there are lots of other
options, including 4x4 island safaris, horseback
riding, mountain-climbing, shark and manta ray
feeding, aft-deck night fishing and lagoon photo
excursions.
For a week, the Ti'a Moana sails Bora Bora's lagoon,
the open sea and, for two hours each evening, in turn,
travels to the neighboring islands of Taha'a, Raiatea
and Huahine. A lagoon is a shallow body of water with
polite waves that is separated from the open sea by
coral reefs and it's a pleasant experience sailing in
one.
French Polynesia is composed of more than 100 islands
in the South Pacific spread over an area larger than
Europe. Tahiti is its largest island, and tiny Bora
Bora, five miles long and less than a mile wide, lies
150 miles to the west of it. Bora Bora's Motu Mute
Airport is located on a motu, or tiny island, so all
departures to Bora Bora are by boat. This airport,
built in
1942 by the United States, was French Polynesia's
first international airport.
BURGERS AND BOATS
One of our favorite activities on this trip was
strolling in the towns on the islands, especially the
sleepy South Pacific town of Fare on green and
mountainous Huahine. Not far from where the Ti'a Moana
was moored, a family was selling burgers on baguettes,
among other items, under the shade of a tree. The
burgers ranged in price from 350 to 500 CFP francs, or
about $3.50 to $5 U.S. Not far away, one of the local
fishermen pulled up to the dock and potential buyers
immediately formed a line. The catch of the day was a
4-foot yellow fin tuna.
An annual outrigger race occurred the week we were on
the Ti'a Moana. For centuries, loin-clothed Polynesian
warriors with leafy headdresses have raced across the
open waters of the South Pacific in their outriggers.
In today's version of the race, six-man teams of
rowers compete in the Hawaiki Nui Va'a, a race that
attracts racers from around the world. They wear
matching T-shirts and baseball hats and their
outriggers are covered with advertising like Indy 500
cars.
Despite the presence of powered support boats
throttling in the open waters just feet away, the
racers still move their oars much like their ancestors
did. They row in perfect harmony at about one stroke
per second and switch sides simultaneously in
practiced choreography. We witnessed the finish of the
four-hour race on Day 1 from the deck while moored in
the harbor of Uturoa on the island of Raiatea. The
race ended on Day 3 in Bora Bora.
BORA BORA LAGOON RESORT
Located on Motu Toopua within the Bora Bora lagoon,
this recently renovated resort glows like a Tahitian
pearl. Dozens of other small motu dot the lagoons and
most of them are owned by local families, and have
been for generations. Ten minutes from the Bora Bora
airport by skiff and a few minutes across the water
from Vaitape, Bora Bora's main town, Bora Bora Lagoon
Resort is a popular luxury resort, one of Bora Bora's
first.
Our overwater resort bungalow opened to our own little
piece of the lagoon with private steps into the warm
water. The view of Bora Bora's mountain peak, Otemanu,
and the lagoon's serene blue and green waters are one
of the benefits of the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort's
location. It's a place where you can enjoy a
traditional Polynesian monoi oil massage in the
resort's Tree Top Spa, take the skiff across the
lagoon to Vaitape for shopping, or just laze in the
pool. Like the Ti'a Moana, this resort is part of the
worldwide Orient-Express luxury network, and our
delightful one-night stay was included in our booking.
It's true that Bora Bora is somewhat pricey. Hawaii
probably gets more visitors in a day than Bora Bora
does in a year, But Tahiti is only five hours from
Easter Island on LAN Airlines (our route) or eight
hours from Los Angeles. Get in touch with your inner
Zen. Become one with those faraway-sounding Polynesian
names. Come to Bora Bora...
INCIDENTAL INTELLIGENCE
GETTING THERE:
LAN Airlines, Web page: www.lan.com, Tel. (866)
I-FLY-LAN, or
(866) 435-9526. A travel magazine reader survey
favorite, LAN is the leading airline in South America.
It's also the only airline, and has been since 1968,
that flies from Easter Island to Tahiti with two
round-trip flights per week. The LAN Alliance offers
service to 49 cities in 18 countries, not including
its numerous codeshare agreements with oneworld,
American Airlines and others.

Bora Cruises partners with Orient-Express
Hotels, Trains & Cruises |
June 8, 2004 -- Orient-Express Hotels, Trains
& Cruises has announced a sales and marketing
partnership with Bora Bora Cruises that will
provide the most elegant way to experience
Tahiti’s Leeward Islands by land and lagoon.
Bora Bora Cruises operates two new luxury
super yachts from its base in Bora Bora, the
only yachts of their kind in Tahiti, and the
South Pacific. Each offers a refined and
private yacht-style cruising experience with
just 30 sumptuous guest rooms per vessel.
Their unique ‘flat-water” design, which draws
a mere 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) provides guests
with a true inter-lagoon experience as the
shallow draft allows the yachts to travel
close to the shoreline and the most beautiful
coral reefs in these islands, while advanced
stabilization provides smooth sailing for the
brief sojourns in open water. The finishes of
each yacht are exceptional, combining the
latest technologies with exotic hardwood
interiors, original artwork, glass staircases,
flat screen televisions, Philippe Starck bath
fixtures with customized temperature controls,
and opulent linens.
The partnership provides Bora Bora Cruises
with the marketing support of Orient-Express’
worldwide sales offices, making it easier for
the individual and travel agent to book.
Meanwhile, Orient-Express gains a multi-island
travel experience that is in keeping with the
rarefied offering that the company, which owns
the famed Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train,
is known for. Clients can book seven-day
yachting experiences to the islands of Bora
Bora, Taha’a, Raiatea, and Huahine and a 10-
or 14-day Motu Miti package (island and sea),
which combines a stay at Bora Bora Lagoon
Resort & Spa with a voyage on Bora Bora
Cruises.
“The synergy between the yacht and the resort
is the key reason we entered into the
partnership,” said Dean Andrews, Vice
President, North America for Orient-Express
Hotels, Trains & Cruises. “Both entities are
dedicated to offering travelers the luxury
boutique experience where the limited number
of guests enables us to offer special touches,
ranging from star gazing on top of a look-out
at the resort to a cinema under the stars on a
private island during your cruise.”
Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises owns
or manages 44 properties in 21 countries.
Since acquiring Bora Bora Lagoon Resort & Spa
in 2001, Orient-Express has invested over $8
million dollars on enhancements to their over
water and beach bungalows, furnishing and
décor, and gardens. They have also added a
fitness center, infinity edge pool, several
private bungalow pools, and a new spa that
will be opening in July of 2004. The
investments have garnered international
recognition in Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold
List, Departures’ Readers’ Favorite Survey,
Celebrated Living’s Platinum List as well as
being chosen for World’s Best Service in
Travel & Leisure and for “Ultimate Fantasy
Suite,” and “Best Hotels for Seclusion” in
Modern Bride magazine.
Bora Bora Cruises, like Orient-Express Hotels,
Trains & Cruises, is founded on the principle
of providing a unique destination experience
and the highest level of service and
amenities. Company founder, owner, and
Chairman Mehiti Degage, is a young Polynesian
woman who has a profound love for the sea and
lagoons of these islands. Bora Bora Cruises is
the realization of her vision to provide
visitors with an experience that captures the
true essence of these islands in a stylish,
intimate and authentic manner. The weekly
seven-day cruise program is an innovative new
destination experience that offers an
enriching encounter with the people and
landscapes, aboard exquisite yachts built
under Degage’s creative collaboration with the
constructors and renowned Tillberg Design of
Sweden.

Tu Moana &
Tia Moana Ships
These two identical ships have been designed and
built specifically for cruising the waters of French Polynesia in
ultimate luxury, along with exceptional service and gourmet cuisine.
Each seven-day cruise visits Bora Bora, Raiatea, Taha'a and Huahine.
They feature numerous free and optional activities and excursions
in the islands as well as in the water , such as the exhilarating
shark and ray feeding or a cool lunch in the lagoon (see photo below).
These luxury cruises are real gems and the very best way to explore
the islands!
The Tu
Moana and Tia Moana take pride in being a "people size" cruise ships,
offering an elegant yet relaxed, convivial atmosphere that does not
require a dress code for dinner. Meal times are flexible as are
seating arrangements. There are usually between 40 to 60 guests from
different parts of the world and in all age groups. The casual and
friendly ambience makes for easy shipboard friendships.
Thanks
to the shallow draft of the ship, you will be taken to the heart of
the lagoons, closer to the unique charms of the local people, the
Polynesian culture and the generous nature of the "Islands Beyond the
Ordinary".
Bora
Bora Cruises invites you to discover the identity of each island

each day of the week, which are included in the cruise fares. (Bora
Bora Pearl Cruises reserves the right to modify such activities and
excursions. There are also optional tours provided by the local
operators).
