Princess'
"Movies Under the Stars" outdoor theaters have become one of
the line's now-signature features, adding an innovative way for
passengers to enjoy the latest films, family fare, sporting events, and
other special programming while relaxing at the pool. Currently
installed aboard Caribbean Princess, Crown Princess, Grand Princess and
Sea Princess, the million-dollar screen will also be featured on the
upcoming Emerald Princess.
Each state-of-the-art Times Square-style LED
(Light Emitting Diode) screen is more than 300 square feet in size with
a 69,000-watt sound system and has sufficient lighting power to be seen
clearly at mid-day and heard clearly even while the ship is moving at
full speed -- offering passengers a movie experience comparable to the
best shoreside movie theater.
The giant screen shows a variety of entertainment
throughout the day, including up to seven feature length films. In
addition to family cinema and first run hits, passengers can enjoy major
sporting events, concerts and other can't-miss programming -- up to 50
different offerings per week.
Unforgettable Evenings
Movies Under the Stars offers a unique way to
relax and enjoy current hit films outside on a comfortable lounge chair.
Poolside loungers are dressed up for the evening with special padded
cushions and warm blankets. Princess' hallmark service enhances the
viewing experience with complimentary popcorn and a variety of
movie-themed cocktail specials and movie nibbles. Nearby eateries also
offer a range of casual dining options to round out the ultimate
poolside experience.
Daytime Fun
During the day, the Movies Under the Stars screen
serves as a backdrop to the poolside action. Family-friendly classic
films keep the young (and the not-so-young) entertained, or concert
footage offers a front-row seat to performances by many favorite
artists. Aboard Sea Princess daytime programming audio is broadcast via
special wireless headsets provided to each passenger.
Special Programming
Special televised events take on added dimension
on the Movies Under the Stars screen, and passengers have enjoyed
poolside showings of the Academy Awards® telecast. Sports fans can keep
up with major competitions (subject to availability) on the big screen
as well -- passengers on past cruises have enjoyed watching the Super
Bowl, NCAA basketball finals, golf's Masters tournament, Wimbledon, NBA
Finals and the college football BCS Championship series, among other
options.
Youth Program Events
Junior cruisers can also enjoy special Movies
Under the Stars events just for them. Special screenings of
youth-oriented movies are often scheduled as part of Princess' kids or
teen programs. In addition, some ships stage exciting video game
tournaments up on the big screen in which kids can compete playing their
favorite PlayStation2 games.
Engagement Under the Stars
Suitors looking for help in creating a
"stellar" marriage proposal have an opportunity to use the
Movies Under the Stars screen to pop the question in a big way. With a
special Engagement Under the Stars package, Princess offers the
opportunity to create a personal video proposal that will surprise the
unsuspecting fiancé-to-be just prior to one of the evening's outdoor
feature films. After she says "yes," the couple will enjoy
other special amenities, including a romantic dinner, champagne, photos,
a couples massage, the creation of keepsake items and many other
features to start off a most memorable engagement.
Princess Cruises "Crowns"
First Engagement Under the Stars Couple
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (July 11,
2006) - With a joyful "yes," Esther Urshon and Jonathan
Rozenblit became the first happy couple to get engaged with Princess
Cruises' "Engagement Under the Stars" program which debuted on
the new Crown Princess. Jonathan worked with the ship's production team
to tape a surprise proposal at the start of their June 23 cruise. A few
days later, when they arrived at the Movies Under the Stars outdoor
theater, under the guise of watching the feature film, Jonathan appeared
on the 300-square-foot LED screen asking her to take his hand in
marriage.
As part of the new "Engagement Under the Stars" program, the
New Jersey couple enjoyed movie-star status and also received champagne,
flowers, a couple's massage, an engagement portrait, and a romantic
balcony breakfast among numerous other perks.
When asked if she was surprised Esther said, "I thought it would
happen on this cruise but I had no idea Jonathan had something as
extravagant as this planned. It was just perfect...and we already know
that the honeymoon will be aboard Crown Princess next summer."
"Engagement Under the Stars" will be rolled out to all
Princess ships that feature Movies Under the Stars, including Caribbean
Princess, Grand Princess and Sea Princess, as well as Emerald Princess
debuting in April 2007.
