Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort:
"Worth Every Single
Penny"

Returned from our honeymoon in April 2004 from the Bora Bora
Pearl Beach Resort. We stayed in a premium over water
bungalow for a week after staying a week at the Moorea Pearl
Beach Resort. We wish we had spent more time in Bora Bora.
The hotel was unbelievable. Everywhere in the room there was
glass to look below at the water (we had glass side tables,
a glass coffee table, glass behind the bathroom sink, and
glass around the bathtub). The bathroom was huge!!! We had a
small area to eat outside in the morning, and lounge chairs
on the deck.
The lagoon was gorgeous (the water was about waist high and
soooo warm). There wasn't much coral, but there were plenty
of fish in the water. We saw sting rays a few times, and a
couple of sharks at night (but never in the day). The island
is very secluded, so it is perfect if you like to just
chill. If you like to go out and party this island is not
for you! We did take the free shuttle to the restaurants on
the main land a few nights but you eat and return, there
isn't much else to do. Make sure you check the schedules, me
and my husband took the boat but missed the bus, so we were
stranded until the next boat came (there is nothing within
walking distance of the boat dock).
The restaurant at the hotel was excellent. Coming from NYC
the service is pretty slow throughout the hotel and island
(but expected and makes you take everything nice and slow).
They did have a happy hour every day that many people took
advantage of but we never made it. We were too busy enjoying
the pool and lagoon. The pool was beautiful...when you were
in the pool you felt like you were in the lagoon because it
overlooked it. I highly recommend the ray and shark feeding
tour. It was a bit expensive but something you will probably
never get to see ever again! You get in the water and the
guide feeds sharks while you stay back and watch, and then
you snorkel through the coral gardens which were
unbelievable, and then you go a little further out and feed
the sting rays. Then the boat takes you all around the
island. This trip was worth every single penny!!! The hotel
was phenomenal, and like nothing I have ever seen before.
Hope to go back when we save up some money!

My new husband and I did extensive research before
deciding on the Pearl Beach for our first trip
together. We wanted something romantic and
secluded -- and that is exactly what we got here.
When you arrive at the airport, you are awestruck
by the colors of the lagoon. To your right, you
will see some overwater bungalows that seem to be
calling you name -- this is the Pearl Beach. It is
a short boat ride and there a sweet polynesian
woman greets you with a cool tropical drink and
takes you to the reception area -- which is as
georgeous as everthing else.
We stayed the first 3 nights in a beach bungalow
-- # 59 -- and it was so much more than we
expected. The whole thing basically opens up, so
you can have a view of the ocean and Mt. Otemanu
from anywhere you want -- even the back garden
area. The garden area is so private and romantic
-- with palm trees and a jacuzzi and loungers and
the outdoor shower (this was my favorite part of
the room!!!). You basically want to wear little to
nothing all the time -- which is great, especially
on your honeymoon.
The staff brought several fruit baskets to our
room, as well as some champagne. They would often
leave beautiful flowers on the bed, and at night
your covers would be all turned down and slippers
set out for you.
The view as the sun rises in the morning is
awesome. If you stay in a beach bungalow, get #59
because it has the perfect palm tree in front of
it ( it's even on postcards in Bora Bora).
The service was friendly and prompt. We never were
in need of anything the entire time. The
restaurant was beautiful, and the food was great
-- only a tad expensive -- but worth it.
Definitely get the breakfast buffet in your plan,
because it has everything you could imagine
wanting.
The pool is picturesque -- it looks as if it
drifts right off into the lagoon. The poolboys
will come by with cool, moist face towels that
have the most wonderful tropical smell to them.
We moved a premium overwater for the last three
nights, and it too was amazing -- it was great to
have an unimpeded view of the main island and to
be able to step right into the water from your
room. Staying here was priceless.
As for the excursions, they were all worth the
extra money. The dinner at Bloody Mary's was worth
it both for the ambiance as well as the excellent
food. The shark and ray feeding was a thrilling
once in a lifetime experience. The sunset cruise
was romantic. Our favorite excursion was the jet
skiing excursion. We jet skiied around the entire
island -- you just can't imagine how many colors
that lagoon is made up of. We got to see other
resorts from the water ( ours looked by far the
best ). Our guide took us to a private motu where
we walked across and saw the waves breaking. He
then showed us how to open a coconut -- and then
we got to drink it and then he cut out the meat so
we could eat it as well. It was a fantastic time.
All in all we had the most amazing time -- it is
much more beautiful than any of the pictures -- go
there, NOW!!!
You will want to stay longer -- so plan to stay as
long as possible. I can't wait to go back.
One word of caution -- it you don't speak french,
it isn't a problem at the resort, but at the
airport in papeete it is a nuisance. The french
tourists won't speak to you -- this was the one
thing I found frustrating. But I would still
return in a heartbeat, as would my husband.
