Windstar
Cruises unveils custom onboard and
shore-side weddings on all three of the luxury line’s sailing ships.
Voted “Most Romantic Cruise line” by Porthole Magazine and acclaimed as
one of the top honeymoon and anniversary destinations, Windstar now offers
the ultimate romantic escape. Couples can elope to unique destinations
around the world to say “I do” beneath the sleek self-furling sails of a
cruising yacht.
“The remote beauty of Windstar’s ports of call and the intimate onboard
atmosphere, provide the perfect rendezvous for couples to unite,” stated
Tom Russell, vice president of marketing and sales for Windstar Cruises.
Well-known for its unregimented atmosphere and highly personalized,
pampering service, Windstar welcomes couples to make their dreams a
reality with weddings that are made-to-order. Differentiating itself from
the pre-packaged wedding programs on the larger
lines, Windstar offers an innovative, custom wedding program as only a
small-ship can.
Continuing to be innovators in the niche cruising market, Windstar
launched the first cruise line weddings in Europe and New Zealand. Europe
and New Zealand offer some of the most romantic backdrops for a Windstar
wedding, with secluded Mediterranean ports along
the French and Italian Rivera’s and natural wonders of the South Pacific.
Couples can have a truly extraordinary wedding with personal touches such
as a firework display sailing out of Venice or a Maori tribal wedding
dance following the ceremony.
Shore-side weddings are also available in Windstar’s unique destinations.
Whisk away to the hills of Tuscany to be married in a small countryside
villa or perhaps to a private beach in the Caribbean. Couples can even say
their vows within the magnificent walls of the Vatican.
Unlike many cruise lines that cringe at the thought of the logistics
involved with weddings on deck, the Windstar fleet was practically built
for them. High atop the secluded flying bridge, couples can take their
vows either surrounded by family and friends or in a private ceremony just
for them. Nothing is more romantic than a wedding under sails. Windstar’s
onboard atmosphere provides the perfect intimate setting.
The ceremony can be as elaborate or simple as desired. Decorative tropical
bouquets can adorn the aisles, and the sails will set the stage as couples
are wed surrounded by the natural beauty of the sea and their port of
choice. For a more elegant ceremony, the crew can roll out
the white carpet for brides to walk down the aisle accompanied by their
musical selection of choice, and vows can be read in the native language
for a local flavor. Anything is possible. And of course a photographer or videographer is available to preserve these memories of a
lifetime.
You’ll be
greeted from the moment you arrive at the pier by your personal wedding
coordinator. You and your fiancé will receive priority check-in and be the
first passengers to board the vessel. If you have guests sailing with you,
they will also get to board early. While your family and friends enjoy all
the ship’s amenities, you’ll be taken directly to your cabin in order to
get ready for the ceremony. When the moment has come, and the ceremony is
about to begin, you will be personally escorted by your coordinator to the
ceremony site. Depending on the size of your wedding party will determine
what room your ceremony and reception will take place in.
Once you’ve
said, "I do" and you’re ready to celebrate the moment, the option of a
private reception will follow. You’ll have the choice of hot and cold hor
d’oeuvres, a lunch buffet or even a seated luncheon. From the tuxedo
rentals, to the flowers and pampering appointments, your coordinator will
take care of every detail from the moment you book your wedding package
through the entire big day.
Whether your
guests are sailing with you or just coming on board to help celebrate your
special day, you have just embarked on one of the most luxurious, relaxing
and pampered experiences of a lifetime
Windstar offers blessing ceremonies on all itineraries, as well as legal
ceremonies in Santorini, Greece, the Caribbean and all Italian and New
Zealand ports (due to local restrictions in some international ports.)
Blessing ceremonies enable couples to leave all of the legal
paperwork at home and instead focus on their vows to each other. The union
is lead by a minister or public official and each couple receives a
beautiful wedding certificate to
commemorate this event
In addition to the ceremony itself, Windstar can plan pre- and post-wedding events as well. The onboard spa will pamper
brides with luxurious facial, massage, make-up and hair beauty packages,
and the groom’s executive trim will have him looking his best. Receptions
are available with cake and tempting cuisine selections by acclaimed chef
Joachim Splichal of the Patina Group. An extensive wine list with classic
favorites and regional specialties complements Splichal’s menu perfectly,
with an abundance of champagne offerings for the “toast”.
Windstar Cruises’ first onboard wedding took place in Monaco on June 23,
2001 with glowing results. “Everything went so smoothly…all I had to do
was show up and smile. It was a fairy tale wedding and we will have
precious memories for a lifetime,” commented the newly
married Kendall and Jess Feather.
Couples must be booked on a Windstar cruise prior to booking a wedding.
Couples are encouraged to book early to secure their preferred ships,
dates and locations.
Each wedding is priced individually. The average wedding costs US$2,000
[CDN$2,985]. Up to ten guests can attend an onboard ceremony at no
additional charge. Additional guests may be allowed to attend for an
additional reception fee.
Seattle-based Windstar Cruises operates three sailing yachts, the
308-passenger Wind Surf, the 148 passanger Wind Star and Wind
Spirit. Windstar’s unique cruise
vacations mix casual elegance and small-ship intimacy. The fleet cruises
worldwide to exotic ports in New Zealand, the Mediterranean, Greek Isles,
Far East, Caribbean, Central America, and the Atlantic and Pacific. |
